Thinking With Your Bible
Does God Change His Mind? | Mailbag
Some people point to the story in Exodus where Moses ‘convinces’ God to withhold from smiting the Israelites as proof that God changes His mind. But is that the whole story?
A listener submitted this question to the podcast: “I was talking today with a coworker and he brought up the passage when God says he’s going to destroy the Israelites and Moses essentially talks him down (Exodus 32:9-14). I know the Bible says God does not change his mind. So how would you explain this/reconcile what seems to be a contradiction?”
In this episode, Scott, Chris, and Bree talk through:
- Other passages where God seemingly changes His mind
- What these passages mean
- The use of anthropomorphic language in the Bible
- What we learn about God’s character
We hope this episode helps you think critically about this popular Bible interpretation!
